The Transgender Law Center is at the heart of a movement of transgender people, our families and our allies working to change laws, policies and attitudes to ensure that we can all live as our authentic selves. In our ten years of existence, the Transgender Law Center has helped build a movement to change the landscape for transgender people in California and beyond. We are looking for a talented community advocate to join our team as the Leadership Summit Coordinator on a temporary, part-time basis.
The Leadership Summit Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of the 2012 Transgender Leadership Summit, which will take place in Berkeley, CA November 9 – 11, 2012. This position reports to the Director of Policy and Programs. The position is temporary through November 21, 2012, though there is potential for full-time employment after that.
The Transgender Leadership Summit is a one-of-a-kind leadership conference that builds the foundation for community members to take action for transgender rights through informative workshops ranging from legal, health care, organizational development and much more.
This position requires occasional availability to work on weeknights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate all logistics for the 2012 Transgender Leadership Summit.
Work with community advisory committee to make decisions about Summit content, secure sponsorships, select workshops and plenary sessions, and conduct community outreach.
Secure organizational partnerships and sponsorships.
Manage Summit budget.
Communicate with outside vendors such as host hotel, translators, caterers, etc.
Coordinate Transgender Law Center staff to participate in the Summit.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrable commitment to racial, economic and gender justice.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, speak in public, and facilitate large and small meetings.
Proven ability to work with a group.
Strong personal organization skills.
Detail oriented.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience planning large events.
Spanish proficiency.
Experience leading collaborative planning processes.
Hourly rate commensurate with experience. Position will average 20-25 hours per week.
