The 7th Annual Transgender Leadership Summit: Building Our Future Together For the past six years, hundreds of transgender and allied leaders have gathered in California to develop organizational, professional and personal leadership skills to advocate for transgender equality. This year’s Transgender Leadership Summit, Building Our Future Together will be at the University of California, Berkeley on Friday, November 9, 2012 through Sunday, November 11, 2012. This year the Transgender Leadership Summit is going national by hosting the Transgender Advocacy Network (TAN).TAN is a group of transgender advocacy organizations from across the country that convenes to discuss prevalent issues and best practices across the country. Leaders will come together to share tools and lessons learned nationwide. Be a part of the conversation and contribute a workshop proposal!The goal for these workshops and caucus sessions is to advance our community’s political, social, and economic leadership by providing participants with an expanding skill-set and knowledgebase for effective advocacy and organizing. With a focus on building a strong, dynamic and unifying movement locally and across the country, workshop proposals should be able to address multiple issues that transgender communities face such as gender identity, sexual orientation, race, class and immigration.

Preference will be given to workshops that focus on building concrete skills and share best practices based on past experiences. Workshop sessions can be 90 minutes or 3 hours in length. We are looking for workshops and caucuses that, as a whole, will: • Equip participants with concrete and tangible skills that can be applied to their respective fields, such as making links between program implementation and policy advocacy. • Equip participants to advocate within the fields of politics, community organizing or social services. • Reflect the diversity of transgender communities, including race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, language, class and geography. • Highlight issues impacting transgender communities, including representation from a wide array of disciplines, fields, populations and sectors. • Use innovative training methods, including audio-visual presentations, small group discussions, role plays, simulations and “hands-on” project formats.
