Ash Stephens

Manager of Policy and Strategy

Ash (they/them or he/him) is Manager of Policy & Strategy at Transgender Law Center. He has devoted much of his commitments to abolitionist movement building and organizing with various collectives including Survived & Punished – NYC Chapter and Love & Protect.

Previously, Ash served as the Director of Bail Operations at the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund  and focused their work on the elimination of cash bail and pretrial detention through a revolving fund. They have worked with community bail/bond projects in both New York City and Chicago.

Ash is a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in the Department of Criminology, Law and Justice with concentrations in Black Studies and Gender and Women’s Studies; a 2020-2021 Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund grantee; and a board member of  Transformative Justice Law Project. He currently resides in Chicago, Illinois and enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and listening to music while playing Nintendo Switch.
