Transgender Law Center warmly thanks C. Nathan Harris and celebrates his work as the organization’s Development Director and then Director of Advancement. After four years of dedicated service helping to build and manage relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation funders at TLC, Nathan is transitioning into a new role this week with ACLU Foundation of Northern California.  “It has been a tremendous and humbling privilege to serve this mission and to partner with a visionary community of donors and funders to help resource the groundbreaking work of my colleagues – the staff, board, and volunteers of Transgender Law Center,” Nathan shared.

As TLC celebrates Nathan’s contributions to TLC, we are very excited to welcome Nancy Otto as Interim Development Director to steward our philanthropic development programs while TLC conducts a formal search for Nathan’s replacement. Nancy has over 25 years of experience with nonprofit organizations, working as staff, board member, volunteer, consultant, coach, facilitator and trainer. Today she works exclusively with nonprofit organizations in the areas of individual donor programs, fund development planning and execution, major gift programs, team building, capital campaigns and endowments; and provides technical support in organizational development, program development, staff configuration, staff development, board development and recruitment, and grassroots organizing.

“We are so thankful to Nathan for his passion, commitment, and incredible success in supporting and growing Transgender Law Center’s capacity to make authentic lives possible,” said executive director Kris Hayashi. “We will truly miss him, but we are excited to welcome the very talented Nancy Otto to continue Nathan’s work with our community of donors and funders.”

Since Nathan’s arrival at Transgender Law Center, the annual operating budget and total number of staff have more than doubled. During his tenure at TLC, Nathan has worked alongside our supporters to shatter the glass ceiling on individual-donor philanthropy to trans-specific, trans-led organizations – inspiring unprecedented giving to advance the movement for TGNC equality. Under Nathan’s leadership and due to the profound generosity of our community, Transgender Law Center has grown its annual donor base from under 500 in 2011 to over 1,200 in 2015. TLC also has become the only organization with the distinction of placing in the top-three nationally every year since the founding of Bolder Giving’s Give OUT Day in 2013.

In his new role as Centennial Campaign Director, Nathan will assist the ACLU affiliate in reaching their portion of an historic national fundraising goal in celebration of ACLU’s 100 year anniversary in 2020. “Although excited for my new chapter,” Nathan said, “I am a bit heartbroken by the closing of this one.”
