Need ideas for your personal activism goal?
  • VOTE!
  • Volunteer to help with voter registration
  • Organize a transgender education event in your town
  • Bring snacks to a meeting of your local transgender activist group
  • Ask your employer about what the company health benefits package includes for transgender employees
  • Invite your mayor or city council member to speak at a meeting of your local transgender support or activist group
  • Check to see if your public library carries books that deal positively with transgender people. If they do, thank your librarians! If they don’t, ask that they get some (or donate them yourself)!
  • Schedule a meeting with your federal representatives in their in-district office to educate them about transgender issues (Click to find contact information for your U.S. Congressperson and for your state’s U.S. Senators)
  • Write an op-ed, letter to the editor, or a blog post to raise awareness about the continued prevalence of anti-transgender discrimination
  • Ask to speak in your community of faith about transgender issues
  • Support the Transgender Day of Remembrance events in your area. Find them atwww.TransgenderDOR.org. If you don’t have any in your area, organize one!
  • The transgender community is very diverse—commit to learning about parts of the community whom you don’t interact with as much.
  • If you serve on the board of a company or organization, advocate to add “gender identity and expression” to the protected categories included in your non-discrimination policy
We also encourage you to be creative! This is a great opportunity to think about what kinds of activism make sense in your life.
