Freedom to marry is important.

Many people, including transgender people, are impacted by the legal recognition of our relationships and families. And, our community needs more than marriage to survive.

That’s why I’m so excited to debut #morethanmarriage, a community-based campaign to amplify the voices of our community and raise awareness of the critical issues we need to address in order to thrive – including marriage, immigration, bullying, health care access, family rights, employment, and more.

Below you’ll see some of our favorite, inspiring leaders already participating by sharing their #morethanmarriage messages.

Won’t you join them? Your voice and your issues matter.

In Solidarity,

It’s been hard to obtain basic essential protections for those people most at the margins which happens to be trans people of color. I’m looking forward to shifting attention back to basic essential needs so that the number of murders of trans people of color is no longer an issue.

Although my public involvement in the equality movement happened around Prop 8 & the fight for marriage equality, my quest to get equal has always included trans-inclusive full equality. We cannot stop until workplace protections, public accommodations, public service, etc., are offered not only to lgb, but our trans family as well.

The truth of the matter is that NY is really behind. We’re still trying to pass a basic transgender civil rights bill. And, we have so much more to do once that’s done.

One of the best parts of my job is facilitating a Transition’s group for transgender and genderqueer youth and adults where we discuss the spectrum of gender, HIV prevention, relationships, self-esteem and many other issues.
