Guest blog post by Jorge Ortiz, in collaboration with Transgender Law Center’s #morethanmarriage campaign
My name is Jorge Ortiz and I am an artist. I feel that I have one of the most important professions in the world because art is a powerful medium that can create global change and raise social consciousness.
As an artist, I am interested in opening the “closet door” to the mainstream public consciousness and holding up the mirror to reveal another side of life. In this way, we learn about different sides of humanity. Chris/tina is a series I have created that focuses on a teenager who identifies as transgender and how this teen deals with the various dynamics that have kept her in the closet for fear of judgement and condemnation.
My goal with this series is to celebrate life and humanity by showing that at the end of the day, we are ALL human beings. Following the main character, audiences will discover that she is no different and that she wants the same basic human rights afforded to others: love, happiness, civil rights, dream fulfillment, etc. Chris/tina is a game changer and can really create dialogue, change and acceptance on a global level. And it is my hope that a cable network or online distribution company will provide us with the platform to do so on a weekly basis.
It is with great joy that I share with you the independent pilot episode for Chris/tina. We would love for you to check it out and share the link around the world so that we can obtain significant views in order to position ourselves better with cable networks or online distribution companies.
