Resources shape our movements. Powerful movements transform our reality. You hold the power to make a better reality possible for our community by fundraising for Transgender Law Center on Give OUT Day.
Before we share how, here’s why.
When we generate our own resources for our own movement, we harness the autonomy, power, and leadership it takes to make the change we wish to see in the world. By building and using skills to raise financial support for the causes dear to your heart, you exert that power and demonstrate that leadership.
And, a prime example of how we can utilize this power in shaping our movements is Give OUT Day – a national, annual collaboration to increase giving to LGBT nonprofits hosted this year on May 21st.
For the past two years hundreds of people, like you, opened their hearts and wallets – many of whom made $10 donations – to help Transgender Law Center secure significant prize grants and raise critical financial support for our work.
Of Transgender Law Center’s 602 Give OUT Day donors in 2014, 56% came from volunteer fundraisers – people like you!
How has this financial support amplified our advocacy efforts? Give OUT Day donors helped us add a new staff person in 2014, Isa Noyola. Isa successfully fights on behalf of transgender immigrants being wrongfully detained and abused in Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities. Recently, Isa convened over 100 trans community leaders to develop strategies essential in ending the epidemic of hate violence faced by transgender people, particularly transgender women of color.
In 2013, Give OUT Day donations raised in part by volunteer donors enabled TLC to hire staff attorney, Sasha Buchert. Sasha wins precedent-setting legal victories for our clients facing discrimination in the workplace, successfully fights health insurance companies who discriminate by denying gender affirming care, and works within coalitions to combat insidious “bathroom bully” legislation like those coming out of FL, KY, and TX, and successfully works with the TLC team to pass legislation on various issues such as making sure that transgender people are respected after death.
That’s why we believe volunteer fundraisers can shape our movements and thereby change the world. And we believe Give OUT Day proves it.
This year, on Give OUT Day, we’ll focus on TLC@SONG – a new form of national collaboration. By combining Transgender Law Center’s policy advocacy and litigation expertise with Southerners on New Ground’s leadership and grassroots organizing prowess we will make urgently needed change for our Southern communities. Your fundraising on Give OUT Day will provide the financial resources TLC needs to open a Southern Regional Office in Atlanta, GA at SONG, and hire two new Atlanta based staff.
By using the information below on Give OUT Day you can make a better reality possible alongside Transgender Law Center’s volunteer fundraising team. We hope to see you in social media on May 21!
