Positively Trans (T+), a project of Transgender Law Center, has been quite busy the last several months! As one of the partners on the Building Leaders of Color Living with HIV (BLOC) program, we held the first national leadership training for transgender women of color living with HIV. Twelve women came from around the country to participate in three days of training on topics like stigma, health literacy, health data, and community leadership.
Our goal was to prepare transgender women of color living with HIV to go back to their communities to be more effective leaders for justice and change. Additionally, we participated in the first regional BLOC leadership training for people of color living with HIV for twenty participants in New Orleans.
Positively Trans has also been working hard in several exciting program areas. We attended AIDSWatch, which included a trans advocacy and networking affinity session. We organized a meeting of our National Advisory Board in Milford, PA, which included a training on effective organizing tactics. In late April, we brought trans people of color with HIV to a Digital Storytelling Workshop at StoryCenter in Berkeley, CA, which helped participants to craft effective storytelling techniques and learn how to use video editing software to produce their own films.
Positively Trans is a constituent-led project grounded in the principle that we are all capable of forming our own network, telling our own stories, and developing our own advocacy strategies in response to inequities, stigma, and discrimination over punitive laws and lack of legal protections in our local communities.
