Today, a federal court issued a preliminary injunction blocking President Trump’s ban against transgender people serving in the military, in a case brought by National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLBTQ Advocates & Defenders. Transgender Law Center executive director Kris Hayashi issued the following response:
“First this administration tried to sanction discrimination against transgender service members, and then against transgender employees broadly with the Attorney General’s recent memos. This ruling is a victory for trans workers, affirming years of precedent establishing that it is illegal for employers to single out and refuse to hire transgender people just because of who we are. This decision adds to the ever-growing list of federal court orders that unambiguously recognize the US Constitution’s heightened protections for transgender and gender nonconforming people.”
