Gender Justice Leadership Programs
GJLP, a collaboration between Transgender Law Center and GSA Network, is a national trans and gender-nonconforming youth leadership and storytelling program that aims to build empathy, understanding, and a movement for youth to share their stories in their own words and in their own way.
Below is the programmatic work
cultivated by GJLP.
Truth
TRUTH launched in 2015 as a joint program of Transgender Law Center and GSA Network. The inspiration for TRUTH came from the experiences of trans young people and their families who shared their stories with local, state, and national media as part of various campaigns to change policies in their communities. These young people often succeeded in changing hearts and minds, but they didn’t always have the resources they needed to stay safe, healthy, and supported in the aftermath of sharing their stories
Roses
The Roses Program grew out of our TRUTH Program and our commitment to support trans girls of color. Roses is creating space built by and for trans girls of color, sculpted to not only welcome girls in but to uplift their voices and power. We are building a world where trans girls of color are taking the roses for themselves. A world that not only affirms but is safe for trans girls of color and where they can be and find love.
Storytelling
Storytelling has become another vital branch of Gender Justice Leadership Programs. Dedicated to multimedia storytelling, this new role amplifies the voices of trans, gender non-conforming, and Two-Spirit youth through various projects. Past examples include the Trans Joy Zine, storytelling workshops, and Narrative Change projects (Cuidado es el Hogar/Care is Home and Camp Outright). In the face of anti-trans legislation and rhetoric, these projects give trans youth the opportunity to make their voices heard and live in their authentic truth.
