Today, Transgender Law Center sent a letter to the San Francisco Police Commission urging full compliance with local laws that prevent police collaboration with federal authorities in ways that target people because of their religion, national origin, and immigration status.
“As our federal government intensifies its attacks on Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, South Asian (AMEMSA), Latinx, and undocumented communities—including LGBTQ members of those communities—, it is more crucial than ever that San Francisco strive to be a leader in the fight against racial profiling, targeting of religious minorities, and immigration officials’ commandeering of local law enforcement,” TLC Executive Director Kris Hayashi explained.
The letter requested that San Francisco police authorities make changes as recommended in an earlier communication by Asian Law Caucus, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and the ACLU of Northern California.
